On approximately 30 hectares around a historic castle hill live over 300 animals, many of them roaming freely. Bison, lynx, ibex, red deer and a small animal zoo with petting animals right next to the children’s playground.

Crocodiles, giant snakes, turtles and poisonous spiders await curious visitors.

One of Austria’s most impressive castles sits atop a 150-meter-high limestone cliff. The ascent leads through 14 historic gates that made the castle impregnable in the Middle Ages. For children, each gate is its own little adventure.

At the top await an armory, suits of armor and a sweeping view over central Carinthia.

Treasure hunt in Pörtschach Gemstones, crystals, fossils and a dedicated gemstone mine where children can go on their own treasure hunt.

The Wörthersee Circular Route is one of Carinthia’s most beautiful cycling routes and is also manageable for families.

With an e-bike or child trailer, the lake can be comfortably circled.

Along the way there are bathing spots and refreshment stops.

Trampoline areas, dodgeball, ninja courses and freestyle zones provide plenty of movement.

Here children from about 5 years old can really let off steam. A good complement to quieter days at the lake.
